Newly-elected AIADMK legislator from Thiruparankundram in Tamil Nadu S.M. Seenivel died on Wednesday morning in a private hospital in Madurai.
Seenivel, 65, was admitted to hospital after he complained of chest pain a day before the vote count. His condition was critical since then.
Madurai is around 470 km from here. Thiruparankundram is part of the Madurai district.
Tamil Nadu Chief Minister and AIADMK general secretary J. Jayalalithaa expressed her grief at Seenivel's death and conveyed her condolences to his family.
