A number of airlines have agreed to new rules requiring two crew members to be present in the cockpit at all times, a media report said.

German airline companies, including the Lufthansa Group, Air Berlin, Condor and TuiFly, have agreed to introduce the new rules after speaking with the German Aviation Association BDL, Xinhua reported on Thursday.

A number of other global airline companies, including Norwegian Air, Easyjet, Air Canada and Icelandair, have also announced similar measures.

This comes after shocking revelations that the co-pilot of a Germanwings plane en route from Barcelona to Dusseldorf on Tuesday, deliberately made the plane to crash in the French Alps after locking the flight's captain out of the cockpit, killing all the 150 people on board.

"We want to introduce these new procedures immediately," said Matthias von Randow, executive director of BDL.

Discussions about introducing the new rules will involve Germany's Federal Aviation Office LBA on Friday, according to reports.
