Ajay Chautala gets interim bail on medical grounds

The Delhi High Court Monday granted on medical grounds four weeks' interim bail to INLD leader Ajay Chautala, who is serving a 10-year jail term for irregular appointment of teachers in Haryana in 2000.

Justice Sidharth Mridul, granting interim bail to the Indian National Lok Dal (INLD) for treatment of his cardiac ailments at a Delhi hospital, asked him to furnish a personal and two surety bonds of Rs.5 lakh each.

The court also directed him to get admitted at the Medanta Medicity here within 24 hours of his release on bail.

Ajay Chautala, son of former Haryana chief minister Om Prakash Chautala, had sought interim bail on medical grounds.

Meanwhile, the court also extended the interim bail of Om Prakash Chautala till Aug 23 and asked the director of AIIMS to direct his medical board to file another report giving a specific answer to whether he needed hospitalisation for his age-related and other conditions.

The trial court had sentenced the Chautalas and eight others to 10 years in jail while one convict was sentenced to five years and 45 others were handed down four-year jail terms.

They were found guilty of illegally recruiting 3,206 teachers in Haryana.
