E-commerce giant Alibaba-backed Chinese handset-maker Meizu on Wednesday formally announced its entry into India with its flagship smartphone MX 5 priced at Rs.19,999.

"We look forward to playing a leading role in shaping the smartphone market here. Based on the business philosophy and commitment to pursue perfection, Meizu remains focused on developing innovative and user-friendly smartphones, which are characterized by their state-of-the-art design, powerful specifications and attractive prices," said Meizu's vice president, marketing, Li Nan.

"We look forward to introducing our complete product range in India very soon," he added. Meizu had in February had secured a funding of $560 million from Alibaba.

Li added that after-sales service will be the key focus for the company as it plans to open more than 40 customer service centers across 20 cities, to serve existing and potential customers better.

"Our focus in India will be to provide future-ready products, which are ahead of competition in both design and performance. The MX5 launch is the first step towards that goal," he said.

The Meizu M5 comes with an AMOLED display, new fingerprint sensor and a 64-bit octa-core processor. The phone is 4G compliant, and has a 20.7 megapixel camera with 6P lens.
