The government is working on a mission mode to connect all 2.5 lakh gram panchayats in the country through high-speed internet by 2018, the Lok Sabha was informed on Wednesday.
"Till date, we have been able to connect over 80,000 panchayats," Minister of State for Communications Manoj Sinha said during Question Hour.
The Minister said the Bharat Net Project aims to create infrastructure for providing broadband connectivity of 100 mbps to 2.5 lakh panchayats.
He said the scheme to provide mobile connectivity in areas affected by Left Wing Extremists is under implementation through the Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited.
