Punjab Chief Minister Amarinder Singh on Thursday flayed Karnataka Governor Vajubhai Vala for swearing in BJP's B.S. Yeddyurappa as Chief Minister and accused him of "subverting the Constitution".
"What else do you expect from a RSS Governor?" Amarinder Singh said in a statement here.
The Chief Minister, who is a senior Congress leader, expressed concern over the "brazen shamelessness with which the Governor had murdered India's democracy and Constitution by calling a minority party (BJP) to form the government in Karnataka".
"The way the Governor had given time to the BJP to break the opposition and resort to horse trading is shocking," the Punjab Chief Minister said.
Terming the development in Karnataka after the results were out on May 15 "unfortunate", Amarinder Singh said what was happening was not only sad but also extremely dangerous for the country's politics.
"We do not want India to become another Pakistan, where democracy is subverted by dictators and the Army every step of the way," he told media here.
He said that people were now looking up to the Supreme Court for "upholding the constitutional principles".
"Democracy has been brazenly manipulated, mutilated, and massacred in Karnataka. It does not augur well for the future of India. All eyes are now on the Supreme Court to come out to protect constitutional ethos, on which the very foundation of our nation rests," Amarinder Singh tweeted earlier.
