The Indian men's table tennis doubles teams advanced to the pre-quarterfinals after winning their respective matches of the 17th Asian Games at the Suwon Gymnasium here Tuesday.
First up, the Indian pair of Achanta Sharath Kamal and Anthony Amalraj dropped the first game before winning 3-1 (6-11, 11-5, 11-8, 12-10) over Nepalese duo of Purshottam Bajracharya and Amarlal Malla in 20 minutes.
In their next match Wednesday, Sharath Kamal-Amalraj will play Japan's Koki Niwa and Kenta Matsudaira, who beat Saudi Arabian team M. Ali Noor Alkhadrawi and A. Saeed akram Alghamdi 3-0 (11-8, 11-9, 11-7).
The other Indian men's team in the fray, Soumyajit Ghosh and Harmeet Desai took 13 minutes to thump Yemen's Ahmed Omar Ali and Mohammed Abdulhakim Fahd Gubran 3-0 (12-10, 11-5, 11-6).
The Ghosh-Desai team will play Chinese duo of Xu Xin and Fan Zhendong, who beat Nepal pair of Ajay Suwal and Shiva Sundar Gothe 3-0 (11-3, 11-3, 11-3), for a place in the quarter-finals.
