The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Saturday nominated former state president Asim Kumar Ghosh as its candidate for the June 2 Howrah Lok Sabha byelection.
The Left Front has nominated Communist Party of India-Marxist leader Srideep Bhattacharya while advocate Sanatan Mukherjee will contest on the Congress ticket.
The seat fell vacant following the death of Trinamool MP Ambica Banerjee April 25.
The Trinamool has named former footballer Prasun Banerjee as its candidate. The election is seen as an acid test for West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee in the wake of the Saradha chit fund scam.
