BJP leader Sarbananda Sonowal on Saturday met Prime Minister Narendra Modi, in the wake of the party's electoral success in Assam.
Sonowal, who is presently the union sports minister, was declared the chief ministerial candidate by the Bharatiya Janata Party before the Assam assembly polls held on April 4 and 11.
Sonowal will take oath on Tuesday as the new chief minister at a function to be attended by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and BJP president Amit Shah, among others.
The BJP has invited all chief ministers of states ruled by the BJP and its allies as well as chief ministers of all northeastern states.
The BJP and its allies on Thursday dislodged the Congress, which had been in power in Assam for 15 years.
The BJP won 60 of the 126 assembly seats. The AGP and BPF secured 14 and 12 seats respectively, taking their combined strength to 86.
