Australia defeated Thailand 2-1 in a nail-biting match of the 2018 World Cup Asian Zone football qualifiers at AAMI Park here on Tuesday evening.
Despite heavy rain, fierce winds and some desperate Thai defence, Australia's powerful attacking lineup was unstoppable, with Tomi Juric (69th minute) and Mathew Leckie (86th minute) got on the scoresheet, reports Xinhua news agency.
Thailand's Pokklaw A-Nan scored in the 82nd minute.
In the second spot for Asia's group B standings, the Aussies will have an anxious wait as Japan take on Saudi Arabia on Wednesday at 3:30 p.m. in a match that will determine which team will miss out on automatic qualification.
