In a further embarrassment to the Congress which was dislodged in Assam after three consecutive terms, also four ministers of the Tarun Gogoi government, part from the chief minister himself, made it to the winning list on Thursday.

While Gogoi could retain his Titabar constituency, state PWD Minister Ajanta Neog won from her home constituency Golaghat. Another senior colleague of Gogoi, Nazrul Islam, who held the food and civil supplies as well as the health portfolios, also retained the Laharighat constituency.

Apart from this, Public Health Engineering Minister Sukur Ali Ahmed could retain his Chenga constituency and Agriculture Minister Rockybul Hussain also managed to win.

Those who bit the dust included Sarat Borkotoky (education, pension and public grievances), Chandan Sarkar (irrigation and soil conservation), Khorsingh Engti (animal husbandry and hill areas development), Ajit Singh (transport, excise, sports and youth welfare), Basanta Das (fisheries and water resources), Atuwa Munda (environment and forests), Gautam Roy (social welfare) and Siddeque Ahmed.

Minister of state Sumitra Patir (tribal welfare, housing, and tourism), Girindra Mallik (mines and minerals, jail, border areas development) and Bismita Gogoi (cultural affairs, handloom, and textiles) also lost.
