The Bhakra-Beas Management Board (BBMB) has exceeded power generation target fixed by Central Electricity Authority (CEA) for the fourth consecutive year, a BBMB spokesman said here Thursday.
"In 2013-14, BBMB generation was 12,154 million units (MUs) which is 26 percent more in comparison to CEA's target of 9,665 MUs. This was facilitated by ensuring optimal water reservoir operations leading to effective utilization of inflows," he said.
The 225-metre high Bhakra Dam celebrates its golden jubilee in 2013-14. The two power houses at the dam have been up-rated from 108 megawatts (MW) to 126 MW each. "There is a 40 percent increase in rated capacity vis-a-vis the original capacity," the spokesman added.
In the last three years, BBMB achieved annual power generation which was 10 to 25 percent higher than the target set by the CEA.
