Benfica beat Moreirense 3-1 in the 22nd round of the Portuguese league at the Comendador Joaquim Almeida Freitas Stadium here.
Moreirense forward Joao Pedro opened the scoring in the 35th minute with a powerful effort on the edge of the box.
Benfica dominated the match in the first half but wasted numerous scoring chances while Moreirense played well defensively Saturday, reported Xinhua.
Moreirense were less organised in the second half, especially after Andre Simoes was handed a red card in the 60th minute.
Benfica defender Luisao equalised in the 58th minute with a header and Eliseu scored in the 65th with a right-footed effort. Brazilian forward Jonas added another in the 72nd to close the scoring.
Benfica stands atop the Portuguese league with 56 points and Moreirense are 11th with 25.
