The 225 metre high Bhakra Dam is witnessing much higher inflow of water in its reservoir this year compared to last year, officials said here Friday.
A spokesperson of the Punjab irrigation department said that the inflow recorded Friday morning was 73,732 cusecs against just 31,285 cusecs last year on the same day.
"The water level in the Bhakra Dam today was 1,608.01 feet against 1,534.50 feet last year on the same day. The water level is 73.51 feet more than it was last year on the same day," the spokesperson said.
Bhakra Dam is located on the Sutlej river, 130 km from here.
At Pong Dam on the Beas river, the water is over 31 feet more than last year, he said.
The spokesperson said that the outflow of water from Bhakra Dam was 32,710 cusecs against 29,459 cusecs last year.
