Gujarat State Chess Association Secretary Bhavesh Patel was unanimously selected Joint Secretary of the All India Chess Federation (AICF) during its Central council meeting here.
This was the only change made in the AICF member panel on Sunday.
Patel has been with the Gujarat Chess Association for the last four years.
"I'm honoured to be elected for the post. This will help me develop chess in Gujarat," Patel told IANS.
The newly selected secretary also said he wants to bring more world events to India.
"This year we will be organising World Chess competition in Gujarat, we are focused to conduct such events all over India so that the youth get more chance and in future can represent India," he said.
