Having failed to clear the water-logging that has hit normal life in the state capital for the past seven days, the Bihar government Tuesday sought the help of the Indian Army to drain out the flood water, an official said.
"We have approached the defence ministry and sought help of the Indian Army to drain out the flood water," principal secretary of state disaster management department Vayasji said.
Despite repeated attempts, the Patna Municipal Corporation officials have failed to drain out flood water from various parts of the city. "We have used powerful pumps to clear the flood water from the city but failed," an official of the PMC said.
Angry over the government's apathy to their problems, residents of Kankarbagh, Rajendra Nagar, Patliputra Colony, and Kadamkuan staged protests.
Waterlogging has affected over a dozen residential localities in the capital city. "It is common to see people wading through waist to knee-deep water to buy essential commodities," Mintu Kumar, a local resident, said.
Water-logging has forced most of the elderly people and children to remain confined to their homes. Several commercial complexes and hospitals have remained waterlogged for several days.
