BJD forms its own trade union

Odisha's ruling Biju Janata Dal (BJD) on Friday announced the formation of its trade union wing - Biju Shramik Samukhya (BSS).

The BJD's chief spokesperson Surjya Narayan Patro said veteran trade union activist Rajendra Prasad Singh has been appointed as President of the new unit while MLA Prafulla Samal has been appointed as the Working President.

BJD leader Subhash Singh will be the General Secretary.

"The BSS will work for the welfare of labourers in the state. It would also work towards providing social security to them," said Rajendra Prasad Singh.

The new trade union unit will have 10 Vice Presidents, 21 Secretaries, 5 advisors, and a Rreasurer.
