In order to leave nothing to chance, Goa's ruling BJP has urged the party top brass -- including Prime Minister Narendra Modi, party chief Amit Shah, Union minister Nitin Gadkari and Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis -- to campaign in the 2017 assembly elections.
Top Bharatiya Janata Party leaders have been urged to make at least two trips to the coastal state for campaigning, though the eventual decision lay with the party high command, BJP Goa unit President Vinay Tendulkar told the media here.
"Our effort is to get the Prime Minister, Amit Shah, Gadkari and Fadnavis for campaigning. We have asked them to visit the state at least twice. They will decide when to come," Tendulkar said.
He said the list of BJP candidates for the elections likely in February will be finalised after the Model Code of Conduct comes into force. The first few names will be officially announced in the first week of January 2017.
The BJP leader said meetings at the BJP mandal and booth levels were currently underway in the presence of BJP Joint Secretary B.L. Santosh.
"We listen to them and their suggestion; we pass it on to the Central Parliamentary Board which decides (on tickets)...," Tendulkar said.
