Kingston (Jamaica), June 9 (IANS/CMC) New Zealand, carrying forward their first innings, were 299 for five at lunch on the second day of the first Test against the West Indies at Sabina Park here Monday.
Resuming at overnight 240 for two, the Black Caps lost three important wickets on resumption, reports CMC.
Overnight century-maker Kane Williamson was the first to go adding just eight runs before being bowled, shouldering arms to left-arm spinner Sulieman Benn for 113.
New Zealand then lost their two senior most batsmen in quick succession.
After getting to his fifty, former captain Ross Taylor chipped one from off-spinner Shillingford straight to mid-wicket Kirk Edwards.
In the next over, Benn got one to spin and bounce sharply and skipper McCullum could only edge it, the ball flying off wicket-keeper Denesh Ramdin's body to first slip Chris Gayle.
New Zealand crashed to 279 for five with the last recognised pair of batsmen, Jimmy Neesham (10) Bradley-John Watling (12) at the crease.
Brief scores:
New Zealand: 299 for five (Kane Williamson 113, Tom Latham 83, Ross Taylor 55; Shane Shillingford 2/84, Sulieman Benn 2/90) vs West Indies.
