Two-time Brazilian Serie A champions Botafogo are preparing a bid to sign former Argentina international striker Hernan Barcos, according to media reports.

Barcos is currently tied to Sporting Lisbon, whom he joined from China's Tianjin Teda in February. But he is yet to score for the Portuguese outfit from six outings, reports Xinhua.

According to the Lance news portal, it is the second attempt by Botafogo to sign Barcos this year.

The 32-year-old, who has been capped four times for Argentina, is well known to Brazilian fans, having had successful spells with Palmeiras and Gremio.

Botafogo will this year return to Brazil's Serie A after being relegated to the country's second tier in 2014. The Serie A season begins on May 14.
