Boxing India (BI) has been cleared by the Union sports ministry as the new governing body for the sport, BI said Friday.
"Boxing India (BI), a recognised member of the International Boxing Association (AIBA) receives clearance of the name "Boxing India" by Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports (Deptt. of Sports) - Government of India," BI said in a statement.
BI president Sandeep Jajodia was happy with the ministry's move.
"We are extremely thankful to the Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports - Government of India for approving the registration of Boxing India," he said.
"The registration is a stepping stone in expediting the administrative formalities and streamlining the overall functioning and activities of Boxing India."
