A school boy committed suicide in a Bihar village after his father expressed his inability to pay Rs.1,500 to buy new books, police said on Sunday.
The incident took place in Kathari village in West Champaran district on Saturday.
The student, Afroz Alam, was so upset that he set himself on fire, police officer Samrat Dipak said. He was a Class 9 student of a government school, and his father, Ali Diwan, was a labourer.
Afroz's mother Samtali Khatoon told the police: "It was not possible for my husband to pay the money demanded by our son."
