The Border Security Force (BSF) Wednesday seized 13.3 kg gold biscuits worth Rs.3.7 crore near the Bangladesh border in West Bengal.
Acting on a tip, the paramilitary personnel tried to stop a motorcycle coming from the Kalyani-Haridaspur road in Nadia district. But the rider fled leaving behind the motorcycle.
A search of the vehicle revealed 115 gold biscuits hidden below the seat cover, a BSF release said.
The biscuits were handed over to the local customs authority at the Petrapole border.
The BSF's south Bengal frontier has seized more than 70 kg gold and apprehended 35 gold smugglers this year, the release said.
