The Bulgarian Olympic Committee (BOC) on Monday backed the decision of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) on the participation of Russian athletes in the Rio Olympics.
The BOC fully supports zero tolerance towards doping, but penalties and restrictions should not affect those who have been correct in their preparation and participation so far, a statement from BOC read, reports Xinhua.
Therefore, the BOC shares the position of the IOC on "individual justice", it further said.
Meanwhile, the BOC is against the use of sport for political purposes and interests, "because we remember how they split the Olympic Movement in the early 1980s", the statement added.
On Sunday, the IOC decided not to impose a blanket ban on Russia from the Rio Olympic Games and let each summer sports international federation determine the respective athletes' eligibility.
