The driver of an app-based cab aggregator was arrested here on Saturday over allegations of sexually assaulting a woman, police said.
Uber driver Gaurav Saha allegedly beat up the girl and tried to sexually assault her inside the cab on Thursday, said an official of the women's police station in neighbouring Howrah district.
"The girl and the accused came in contact through Facebook and were in a relationship. However, the relationship deteriorated when Gaurav walked away from the promise of marrying her," said the official.
The girl lodged an FIR against him at the Howrah women's police station.
The accused has been charged under section 354 of the Indian Penal Code for assault or use of criminal force with intent to outrage a woman's modesty, the official added.
