The Union Road Transport and Highway Ministry Wednesday issued a notification to regularise e-rickshaws, sources said.
The gazetted notification by the ministry was aimed at re-starting the operation of e-rickshaws.
BJP Delhi president Satish Upadhyay welcomed the notification.
Upadhyay said as a result of the efforts of Road Transport and Highway Minister Nitin Gadkari, the notification will pave the way for legal and safe operation of e-rickshaw not only in Delhi but all over India.
He also said after the notification, it is the responsibility of all the state governments including Delhi to start smooth operation of e-rickshaws after overcoming all the legal hindrances.
Upadhyay said Delhi Lt. Governor Najeeb Jung should now apprise the Delhi High Court about the notification and urge it to remove the ban on e-rickshaws so that the livelihood of thousands of families may be saved.
