Delhi Health Minister Satyendra Jain on Monday said the Centre may bring an ordinance to bypass the Supreme Court ruling on the National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test (NEET), which has been made mandatory for medical entrance across India.

Jain said the Delhi government was completely in favour of NEET, and welcomed the Supreme Court's decision on it.

"It seems they (Centre) are planning to bring an ordinance to bypass the Supreme Court ruling so that NEET can be stopped," Jain said.

Jain aired his view following the consultation meeting of the state health ministers and Union health minister J.P. Nadda over the NEET issue.

Stating that corruption was a major problem at the medical institutes, Jain said: "Medical education has become a big business. Many political leaders, including certain MPs, have stakes in the medical colleges. It is surprising that on the one side several states are saying that they support the court's order but on the other side they do not want it to be implemented. The apex court's order should be implemented as soon as possible."

Following the meeting, Nadda said there was a need for more consultations with the state governments on the NEET issue as several parameters, such as languages of the question papers and the syllabus, were to be discussed.
