Sports officials from China on Monday paid a special visit to an Indian basketball player who suffered injuries during a match at the ongoing BRICS Games.

Veteran Indian star Vishesh Bhriguvanshi lost his footing while attempting to score during a match against China here on Sunday, reports Xinhua news agency.

He has been diagnosed with a serious injury to the anterior cruciate ligament in his knee and is likely to miss the rest of the tournament.

On Monday morning, a group of officials from the State General Admininstration of Sport, the Guangzhou Municipal Sports Bureau, as well as the Chinese Basketball Association, visited the injured player at the hotel, expressing their condolences and wishing him quick recovery.

The incident took place during the third quarter of the match, which China won 97-57. Bhriguvanshi was stretchered off the court, accompanied by China's team doctor.

Several Chinese fans applauded him as he was taken off the court.

To the visiting Chinese officials, Bhriguvanshi and his teammates expressed their thanks. India coach Bhaskar Sappaniambalam said that they had a very nice reception since their arrival and received anything other than the utmost courtesy and genuine friendship among the BRIC countries.
