São Paulo, July 7 (IANS/EFE) Netherlands goalkeeper Jasper Cillessen has apologised to fans for indecent behaviour after being substituted by Tim Krul in the 120th minute of their quarter-final against Costa Rica.
Dutch coach Louis van Gaal's decision to substitute Cillessen made him kick water bottles towards the substitutes' bench at the Arena Fonte Nova in Salvador Saturday, reports Efe.
"I want to apologise to the fans. I was shocked at being substituted but I apologised to (chief goalkeeping coach) Frans Hoek and I will do the same in front of my teammates," said Cillessen.
The Dutch face Argentina at the Arena de São Paulo in the semi-final here Wednesday.
