The networking market in India posted a growth of 14.2 per cent in the first quarter of 2017 -- almost double from 7.4 per cent posted in Q4 in 2016 -- with Cisco being the leader in the Router and Ethernet Switch segments, a new report said on Thursday.
According to International Data Corporation's (IDC) Asia/Pacific quarterly tracker, the trend is headed by the Router market which witnessed a year-on-year (YoY) growth of 33.5 per cent in Q1 2017 and stood at $92.5 million by vendor revenue.
Cisco (75.7 per cent) marked majority share in the Router market, followed by Huawei (6.8 per cent) -- which saw a YoY decline in Q1 2017 -- and Nokia (6.4 per cent).
The Ethernet Switch market stood at $126.6 million, marking a YoY growth of 12.4 per cent with Cisco (63.4 per cent) retaining its dominance in the market, followed by HPE (7.3 per cent) and Huawei (2.8 per cent).
"The digitisation efforts by the government will continue to have a positive impact on the networking market. The various smart city projects have laid a foundation to create a digital ecosystem highlighting the need to upgrade the current network infrastructure requirement," said Niharika Kumar, Senior Networking Analyst, IDC India.
The top verticals driving investments in the market were telecom, BFSI, professional services, government and education.
However, the WLAN market, standing at $42.3 million, showed a decline of 8.5 per cent from last year.
The slow growth was attributed to the dampened demand from all the segments after witnessing a traditional growth/spike during the last quarter.
D-Link (24.6 per cent) retained its top spot in the category, followed by Cisco (18.5 per cent).
