Hindustani classical vocalist Pandit Ulhas Kashalkar will be felicitated with the Tansen Samman by the Madhya Pradesh government, official sources said on Wednesday.
He will be presented the award comprising Rs 2 lakh, a certificate and a shawl for his services to the Indian classical music.
The selection committee unanimously decided on Pandit Kashalkar's name. The panel included classical singer Pandit Satyajit Deshpande, Pandit Dalchand Sharma and other renowned singers.
Kashalkar is based in Pune in Maharashtra. Under his father Pandit N.D. Kashalkar's tutulege, Kashalkar learnt music. He has been awarded the Padam Shri, Sangeet Natak Akademi award among others.
