It was a clear sky on Friday morning here with shallow fog with the smog situation during the day expected to remain poor, the weather office said.

As per the IMD, the minimum temperature was recorded at 14.5 degrees Celsius, normal for this time of the season. The maximum temperature is likely to hover around 31 degrees Celsius.

"The sky will mainly remain clear during the day. Shallow fog will be there in the morning. Wind speed was nill in the morning," an official from the India Meteorological Department (IMD) told IANS.

The visibility due to fog in the morning remained 800 metres at Safdarjung airport while the same was 400 metres on Thursday.

"Due to calm winds which is expected to be around three knots north-easterly today (Friday), the smog situation is likely to be the same," the official said.

Due to smog, however, the visibility in the same area dropped to nearly 200 metres between 11.30 a.m. to 2.30 p.m. on Thursday.

The national capital is facing one of its worse air quality post Diwali mainly due to paddy burning in neighbouring states and calm winds which failed to disperse the air pollutants.

The humidity at 8.30 a.m. was 82 per cent, the weather office said.

Thursday's maximum temperature settled at 30.1 degrees Celsius, the season's average while the minimum temperature was recorded at 14.5 degrees Celsius, also normal for this time of the season.
