Colombian authorities capture two rebels planning attack

Colombian authorities captured two alleged guerrilla rebels who were planning to attack on Bogota's bus-based mass transit system, known as "TransMilenio", a local official said.

"Two people were arrested with charges of manufacturing, trafficking and illegal possession of weapons, explosives and ammunition for the exclusive use of the Armed Forces," Xinha quoted Carlos Manuel Silva, chief prosecutor of the department of Cundinamarca, as saying.

After six months of investigation, Colombian authorities "seized 108 explosive bars and five "tatucos" (non-conventional explosives) that were being marketed apparently by members of subversive groups to attack the TransMilenio stations and the security forces in the departments of Cundinamarca, Tolima and Huila," Silva told a press conference.

The explosives were found after authorities conducted a raid on a house located in the town of Guacheta, in Colombia's central department of Cundinamarca, and the two suspects were immediately arrested.

The two suspects could face 11 years to 15 years of imprisonment, said Silva.
