Congress Tuesday announced the names of union minister Kumari Selja and Sanjay Singh, MP from Sultanpur in Uttar Pradesh, as party nominees for the biennial elections to the Rajya Sabha.
The polls, if necessary, will be held Feb 7.
A party release said Selja, who is minister of social justice and empowerment, will be the party candidate from Haryana.
It said Sanjay Singh and chief of the party in Assam, Bhubaneshwar Kalita, would be party nominees from Assam.
There was speculation that former Delhi chief minister Sheila Dikshit could be fielded from Haryana.
Congress sources said Sanjay Singh, a former minister in Uttar Pradesh, wields influence in Amethi, the constituency of Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi.
