A day after a UPA panel and the Congress Working Committee cleared the creation of Telangana state, BJP president Rajnath Singh said Wednesday a second State Reorganisation Commission was needed to reconstitute the states.
"The decision to create Telangana is a welcome move. The BJP has always been favour of Telengana state," Rajnath Singh said in a comment on microblogging website Twitter.
"The centre should also constitute the second States Reorganisation Commission to consider demands for separate states in the country," he said.
The States Reorganisation Commission (SRC) was constituted by the central government in 1953 to recommend the reorganisation of state boundaries.
Demands for separate states from several parts of the country have spurted after the announcement of Telangana out of Andhra Pradesh, prominent being Gorkhaland out of West Bengal, Vidarbha out of Maharashtra and four different states out of Uttar Pradesh.
