Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu on Tuesday said better cooperation and sharing of intelligence between different government agencies was needed to ensure passenger safety and security on the Indian Railways network.
His remarks came as he addressed a video conference with the Director Generals and Police Commissioners of all states and union territories in the light of "repeated sabotage" of railway tracks, a government statement said.
During his address, Prabhu emphasised on rewarding security personnel for preventing sabotage and the need to have a Forensic Science Laboratory for the railways.
Minister of State for Home Affairs Hansraj Gangaram Ahir advised state police to be careful about the designs of "criminals and anti-national elements" and offer full cooperation to the railways.
Director General of Railway Protection Force S.K. Bhagat expressed concern over the sharp increase in sabotage cases in 2017.
