Police on Friday arrested Tripura Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M) leader Jitendra Das, his two brothers and his nephew in connection with the murder of his wife Kalpana Das, an official said.
"We have arrested Jitendra Das, his two brothers and his nephew in connection with the murder of Kalpana Das and they would be produced in a court soon," a police official said.
Jitendra's wife, Kalpana Das, 62, a retired employee of Tripura police department, was found dead at their home at Ranir Bazar, near here, on Thursday morning.
CPI-M spokesman Gautam Das said the incident appears to be that of murder and the party would take appropriate action against Jitendra Das as par the party's norms.
Jitendra Das, 64, was the former Sabhadhipati (president) of Paschim Zilla Parishad until July 2014 and a senior leader of the CPI-M Sadar sub-divisional committee.
Kalpana's death stirred the political and non-political circles in the Left-ruled Tripura.
