Cuban Grandmaster (GM) Leinier Dominguez, considered Latin America's top player, will compete in the 76th edition of the Tata Steel Chess Tournament to be held Jan 11-26 in the Netherlands, media reported.
This will mark the fourth time the Caribbean GM, who is currently ranked 14th in the world with a total of 2,754 Elo points, takes part in the tournament, Xinhua reported Tuesday.
In 2004, he was second in Group B, in 2009, he was sixth in Group A, and in 2010, he was eighth in Group A.
In the previous three editions, Dominguez played a total of 39 games, for a total of eight victories, 28 draws and only three defeats.
Tata Steel will be hosted by three Dutch cities, Wijk ann Zee, Amsterdam and Eindhoven, and feature 12 players in the main group.
