The Aam Aadmi Party's (AAP) student wing on Monday said it had received many applications of students from seven DU colleges to contest Delhi University Student Union (DUSU) polls.
State Chhatra Yuva Sangharsh Samiti (CYSS) president Anupam Yadav said, "Our aim is to make DUSU polls free from money and muscle power. For this, we asked students wishing to contest the polls to fill up applications to express their interest. The filing of online applications began on Saturday."
"On the first day (Saturday) till evening, we received applications from Pannalal Girdharlal Dayanand Anglo Vedic College, Zakir Husain Delhi College, Satyawati College, Law Faculty Delhi University, Hindu College, Sri Guru Tegh Bahadar Khalsa College and Sri Guru Nanak Dev Khalsa College," he said.
He said applications could be filled online on www.cyss.in till August 5.
The party will go through all applications to select the most deserving candidates in a free and fair manner, Yadav said.
"Students with good credentials, clean background and innovative ideas to do something for the institution and hard work they are willing to put in, will be given tickets by CYSS to contest," he said.
"Several student groups working in the DU for student welfare will be supported by us to contest the DUSU polls. We have already begun our campaign for DUSU polls," the CYSS state president added.
CYSS has been working since 2013, but it did not contest the last two elections.
