Singer Rod Stewart has described late rock icon David Bowie as the "fearless leader of the pack".

Following the news of Bowie's death on Sunday from cancer at the age of 69, Stewart took to Instagram to praise his peer and champion his unparalleled talent, reports femalefirst.co.uk.

Along with a photograph of Bowie in his dressing room preparing to go on stage, Stewart wrote: "Undeniably the fearless leader of the pack, David was the groundbreaking chameleon who impacted us all. Such a colossal loss."

Since Bowie passed away, countless musicians have paid tribute to him and thanked him for his songs and contribution to film and arts.
