DCW's staff barred from entering office

A day after Lt. Governor Najeeb Jung rejected the AAP government's appointment of Swati Maliwal as the Delhi Commission for Women (DCW) chief, her nameplate was removed and her staff was barred from entering office.

"Today morning the staff of Maliwalji's office were not allowed to enter the DCW office. Maliwalji's nameplate was also removed," said Bhupinder Kumar, personal advisor to Swati Maliwal.

He said Maliwal, who was at her residence, was informed about the development.

In a series of tweets, Maliwal said: "Why was my nameplate removed? Files have been taken back and I have been asked not to come to office.

"For the past three days, I am seeking an appointment to meet Jung. Today also I am seeking an appointment. I hope I will get it."

Jung's office had said that the appointment of Maliwal, a social activist and the wife of an AAP leader, was "in breach of rules and procedures" and "had no legal sanctity".

However, the Delhi government said it acted well within its powers.
