West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee expressed deep shock over the death of Gopinath Munde, the rural development minister, who was killed early Tuesday in a road accident in the national capital.
"I am deeply shocked to learn about the news of sudden and tragic demise of Shri Gopinath Munde," Banerjee said on her Facebook page.
"I personally knew him for a long time. It is a very sad news. May his soul rest in peace," she said.
Munde, 64, an important figure in Maharashtra politics, was going to the Indira Gandhi International Airport in his Maruti Suzuki SX4 car, which was hit by a Tata Indica at Aurobindo Marg in south Delhi around 6.20 a.m., police said. He had a cardiac arrest after the impact, a doctor was quoted as saying.
