In its ongoing efforts to provide assistance to the flood hit victims of Jammu and Kashmir, the Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGIA) here has dispatched the first lot of six high power, sophisticated de-watering pumps to the state.
According to the Delhi International Airport Limited (DIAL), the company which manages IGIA, the 100 HP diesel de-watering pump equipment has the capacity to drain up to seven lakh litres of water per hour.
The company has also dispatched a team of six trained operators to handle the machines which were air lifted by the Indian Air Force's C-17 aircraft.
Apart for the equipment aid, DIAL has also extended support to passengers from the flood hit state by providing food, taxi fare, railway tickets and survival money to the victims.
The company said it is also working closely with Delhi Metro Rail Corporation, Delhi Transport Corporation, Indian Railways and various state governments to provide full support to the victims.
"We are handling all incoming flights from Jammu and Kashmir with full care. Our terminal operations team is helping passengers from the affected areas by providing them drinking water, phone calling cards and wifi," said I. Prabhakara Rao, chief executive, DIAL.
