Delhi government to collaborate with Australian High Commission on skill centres

Partnership on developing world-class skill centres is on the cards as High Commissioner of Australia to India Harinder Sidhu called on Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal here on Thursday.

During the meeting, Kejriwal and his Deputy Manish Sisodia informed Sidhu about the World Class Skill Centres in Delhi and the excellent results achieved in the last three years.

"She was also told about the understanding with the Singapore Government on the first Skill Centre. The Chief Minister also told her that Delhi was soon going to open 25 more skill centres," Kejriwal's office said.

The CM's office informed that Kejriwal and Sisodia sought an understanding with Australia for the upcoming skill centres to which the "High Commissioner answered in affirmative" and asked for a detailed proposal to be sent to be taken further.

The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leaders also discussed "cooperation and understanding over Incubation centres" to which the High Commissioner said that similar partnership already exists between institutions in India and Australia and expressed willingness over understanding with Delhi's incubation centre.

Another major area which came up for discussion was Research and Development (R&D).

"R&D is one of the most important aspects and we should look at partnership opportunities in the area also," Kejriwal said.

After the meeting, Kejriwal said: "Look forward to collaboration with Australia especially in the fields of skilling, incubation centres and R&D".

"The High Commissioner briefed the Chief Minister and the Deputy Chief Minister on the 10 key sectors on which India and Australia could collaborate and partner with education being the flagship sector," Kejriwal's office said.
