A 50-year-old man and his 41-year-old sister were found hanging from a ceiling fan in a hotel room in Haldwani, said police Monday.

The bodies of Amarnath Banerjee and his sister Irawati Banerjee were recovered by Delhi Police from the hotel around 1 a.m. Monday.

Police said the duo had left their Delhi's Nanakpura home Aug 1 for Haldwani. They sent an SMS to their brother, who works in the Ministry of Grievances and Planning, that they were going to end their lives because of their prolonged illness.

The brother informed police around 11 a.m. Sunday after which a team was sent to Haldwani.
