Democracy needs synergy with education: Meira Kumar

New Delhi, April 25 (IANS) There is need for synergy between the democratic process and education, Lok Sabha Speaker Meira Kumar said Thursday while noting that democracy has sustained in India despite economic disparities and multiple identities of its people.

"There is a need for synergy between democratic process and education. Democracy has sustained in India despite economic disparities and multiple identities of its people, such as varied cultural affiliations and linguistic diversity," the speaker told a group of scholars here.

She said the success of representative bodies in India has largely been due to its inherent ability to integrate its citizens in growth and development.
