The deputy mayor of Dhanbad in Jharkhand was admitted to a hospital after sustaining a bullet injury from his revolver on Thursday, police said.

Eklavya Singh, who was hit on neck by the bullet, was later referred to a West Bengal medical facility for treatment.

Police reached Singh's residence after the incident and the family members initially did not allow police to enter the house.

Police are trying to ascertain if it was an accidental firing or someone else shot at him.

The bullet hit Singh's neck and that has created suspicion, police said.
