Detained US embassy official released in Pakistan

A US embassy employee, who was detained at the Benazir International Airport in Islamabad Thursday for carrying loaded 9 mm pistols, was released Friday, media reported.

According to airport officials, William John was travelling from Islamabad to the US via Abu Dhabi, Dawn online reported.

He was detained Thursday night after Airport Security Force (ASF) personnel recovered 9 mm pistols with magazines and 15 bullets during baggage check.

Later, ASF personnel handed the US embassy staffer over to police for investigation.

According to sources, John was serving as a trainee in the US embassy.
