Union Parliamentary Affairs Minister Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi on Friday said that progress and prosperity of the poor, weaker sections and minorities is not a "political formality" for the Narendra Modi government, but a "Rajdharma".

"We are focused on arithmetic of development and empowerment of poor people and not on mathematics of votes," he said while addressing a meeting of senior government officials here.

Naqvi said that the central government wants to empower the poor, minorities, Dalits and other weaker sections of the society in cooperation with the state governments.

"We have achieved great success in this regard, but still many things are to be done. The central government and Minority Affairs Ministry, in cooperation with the states, have been working to provide development and trust to the last person of the society," he added.

The minister also assured the officials that there will be no shortage of funds for the purpose.

"There will be no shortage of money but every single penny of the public money should be spent on developmental works with complete honesty and transparency," he added.

Naqvi said that his ministry has been working on employment-oriented schemes for the youths.
