British spirits major Diageo plc on Monday announced setting up of an in-house business services centre in the tech hub Bengaluru city in Karnataka.

"The centre will start operations from October 17 next year as our global finance and accounting facility from the Special Economic Zone in the city's northern suburb," said the liquor firm in a statement here.

With about 1,000 people by the end of next year, the Diageo Business Services India (DBSI) centre will extend its operations to provide business intelligence, analytics and data among others.

"As a new entrant to India's global in-house centre community, we are looking to creating a distinctive identity in the market," said Tracey Barnes, DBSI Managing Director.

Diageo's Indian arm acquired controlling stake in United Spirits Ltd (USL) from liquor baron Vijay Mallya, with the largest market share in spirits segment.

The company's other business shared service centres in Manila (Philippines), Nairobi (Kenya), Budapest (Hungary) and Bogota (Colombia) work with Diageo's customers, suppliers and employees across 21 markets the world over.

Diageo's brands include Johnnie Walker, Crown Royal, JIuB, Buchanan's and Windsor whiskies, Smirnoff, CA-roc and Ketel One vodkas, Captain Morgan, Baileys, Don Julio, Tanqueray and Guinness.
